for therapists.

Thoughtful, practical support for your clinical development — and your wellbeing.

My aim is to help you think more clearly about your clinical work, strengthen your formulation and intervention skills, and develop confidence as a therapist, while making space for how you are doing too.

Who I supervise

Support for the stage you’re at

I offer individual CBT supervision for qualified and developing CBT therapists, including those moving into private practice, working toward or maintaining BABCP accreditation, newly qualified therapists wanting additional support, and experienced clinicians looking for independent supervision.

Supervision can be regular and ongoing, or you can arrange occasional consultation around particularly complex cases or areas of practice.

Moving into private practice

Support adapting from service-based CBT to independent clinical work.

Working toward or maintaining BABCP accreditation

Supervision aligned with high standards of CBT practice and space to discuss your professional requirements.

Newly qualified CBT therapists

Additional clinical support as you build confidence and experience.

Experienced therapists

Independent supervision outside your employing organisation, with room to reflect and develop.

Formulation, complexity and stuck cases

For therapists who want to develop their skills and understanding, with supervision that goes beyond basic case management.

My approach to supervision

Collaborative, supportive
and down to earth.

I want supervision to be a place where you can think openly about your work — including uncertainty, mistakes and situations where therapy is not progressing as expected.

My aim is to help you leave supervision with greater clarity about the case and a practical direction for what to do next.

Questions we can explore together

Alongside exploring what happened in a session, I am interested in questions such as:

  • What is maintaining this person’s difficulty?
  • Does the formulation still explain what we are seeing?
  • Why might the therapy have become stuck?
  • Are we targeting the right processes?
  • What is happening within the therapeutic relationship?
  • What might you be doing more or less of as the therapist?
  • What does the evidence suggest, and how do we apply it flexibly to this individual?

Areas we can work on

A clear CBT foundation, applied flexibly

Supervision can include support with:

Where a case falls outside my own areas of competence, I will always be transparent about this rather than attempting to supervise beyond my expertise.

Clinical presentations
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression and low mood
  • Excessive worry and generalised anxiety
  • Panic and health anxiety
  • OCD
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Social anxiety
  • Low self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Stress and burnout
  • Complex or comorbid presentations
Clinical skills and development
  • CBT assessment and case conceptualisation
  • Individualised cognitive-behavioural formulation
  • Avoidance and behavioural patterns
  • Treatment planning and selecting appropriate interventions
  • Difficult or stalled therapy
  • Therapeutic relationship issues
  • Therapist confidence, wellbeing and development
  • Maintaining fidelity to evidence-based CBT while working flexibly with the individual
  • Transitioning into independent/private CBT practice
Formulation and complex cases

Space to step back when therapy feels stuck

One of the areas I particularly enjoy is helping therapists make sense of complex or stuck cases.

When therapy isn’t progressing, it can be tempting to simply add another technique. Often the more useful step is to return to the formulation and ask whether we fully understand what is maintaining the problem.

Supervision can help you step back from the detail of individual sessions, identify patterns that may have been missed and develop a clearer hypothesis about what needs to change.

This can be particularly helpful when:

  • Several problems are interacting
  • The client appears to understand CBT intellectually but little is changing
  • Standard protocols are not producing the expected improvement
  • Avoidance or safety behaviours are difficult to identify
  • The therapy has become repetitive
  • You are unsure whether to continue, adapt or change direction
Live and close supervision

A closer look at your clinical work

Where appropriate, I can incorporate close supervision of clinical work, rather than relying solely on retrospective discussion.

This can include reviewing therapy recordings or extracts, examining specific therapist-client interactions and identifying opportunities to develop clinical skills.

Close supervision can be particularly useful for understanding aspects of therapy that are difficult to capture through verbal case discussion alone. It can also provide a much richer basis for developing specific CBT competencies.

We can discuss suitable arrangements for live or recorded work, including client consent and confidentiality, before bringing material to supervision.

CTS-R review and development

Practical feedback to help you grow

I have previous experience marking Cognitive Therapy Scale – Revised (CTS-R) recordings within CBT training.

Where appropriate, supervision can include reviewing recorded therapy and using CTS-R competencies as a framework for developing your clinical skills. This can be useful if you want to strengthen:

  • Agenda setting and session structure
  • Feedback and collaboration
  • Pacing and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Eliciting appropriate cognitions and emotions
  • Applying change methods
  • Developing effective homework
  • Conceptual integration

The purpose isn’t simply to obtain a score. Used well, the CTS-R can help identify very specific ways in which your clinical practice can become more effective.

Moving into private practice

Make the transition with support

Moving from an NHS or organisational role into private practice brings a different set of challenges.

Alongside clinical supervision, I can help you think through the clinical and professional decisions that come with working independently.

My aim is to help therapists make the transition into private clinical work safely and confidently.

  • Deciding which clients are appropriate for your practice
  • Managing complexity when you no longer have a wider multidisciplinary team around you
  • Boundaries and contracting
  • Managing risk independently
  • Determining when referral to another service is appropriate
  • Balancing evidence-based treatment with the expectations of private clients
  • Maintaining professional and ethical standards while running an independent practice
  • Protecting your wellbeing and building a sustainable workload

My experience

Clinical experience.
A commitment to development.

I am a BABCP-accredited CBT Psychotherapist with 14 years’ experience working within the NHS, alongside private clinical practice and higher education.

I spent five years as a Senior Lecturer in CBT and have extensive experience teaching, supporting and developing CBT practitioners.

Across my clinical career I have worked with a broad range of psychological difficulties and levels of complexity, and my academic background keeps me closely connected to contemporary CBT theory, evidence and clinical practice.

I have also previously provided clinical supervision to CBT trainees and marked CTS-R therapy recordings, giving me particular experience in helping therapists examine their clinical work in detail and translate CBT theory into effective practice.
