A BOOK BY CHRIS FINN

A Clear Mind

The Less Is More Mindset
to Wellbeing & Performance

What if a better life doesn’t require more thinking — but less getting in your own way?

A LITTLE LESS THINKING.
A LITTLE MORE LIVING.
A Clear Mind by Chris Finn — The Less Is More Mindset To Wellbeing And Performance
“This book is
absolutely
life changing!”
— Reader review

A Clear Mind is a practical exploration of how our own thinking can create stress, worry, self-doubt and limitation — and what can happen when we stop taking every thought quite so seriously.

Drawing together psychology, mindfulness and practical insight into how the mind works, the book offers a different approach to wellbeing and performance.

Not more techniques.
Not another list of things you should be doing.
A clearer understanding of what may already be getting in your way.

WHAT IS A CLEAR MIND?

A clear mind doesn’t mean having no thoughts.

An open sea horizon and a quiet Dorset coastline
More perspective.More presence. And often, much more common sense.

Your mind is designed to think.

The problem isn’t that thoughts appear. It’s how easily we can become caught up in them.

We replay conversations. Imagine futures that haven’t happened. Question ourselves. Try to solve feelings with more thinking. Create stories about what things mean. And sometimes we become so absorbed in all that mental activity that it starts to feel like reality.

A clear mind is different.

You can still think, plan, reflect and solve problems — but with less unnecessary noise surrounding it all.

There is more space between a thought appearing and automatically believing it.

A Clear Mind explores how to find more of that clarity without turning it into yet another thing you have to work hard at.

WHY DOES MENTAL CLARITY MATTER?

Life looks different when there is less on your mind.

Think about the moments when you've naturally been at your best.

Perhaps you were completely absorbed in something you enjoyed. Having an effortless conversation. Playing sport. Creating something. Walking somewhere beautiful. Solving a problem when suddenly the answer became obvious.

You probably weren’t trying particularly hard to achieve the right mental state.

You simply weren’t getting in your own way.

Mental clarity matters because the quality of our thinking influences so much of the way we experience and respond to life.

With less mental clutter, we often have greater access to:

Peace of mind

Less wrestling with every thought, feeling or problem that appears.

Confidence & self-trust

Less second-guessing yourself and more trust in your ability to respond to what happens.

Better decisions

Seeing what is actually in front of you rather than every imagined possibility surrounding it.

Presence

Spending more of your life actually experiencing it instead of being somewhere else in your head.

Creativity & problem-solving

Giving insight and new ideas room to appear rather than trying to force an answer.

Better relationships

Being more available to the person in front of you rather than lost in your own assumptions, interpretations and reactions.

Performance & flow

Taking action with less self-consciousness, hesitation and overthinking.

A clear mind isn't about becoming a different person. It is about discovering how you function when there is less unnecessary thinking in the way.

THE LESS IS MORE MINDSET

Tools and techniques v transformation

I wanted to understand more about the truth of what creates our experience of life and the root cause of human struggles. I wanted to understand the keys to wellbeing and performance.

My approach is a subtractive thinking approach. Instead of adding to the overload of information already swimming around in your mind, I’ll show you how to take things back to a clear mind and basic common sense that is already and always available within you.

People don’t need more tools and techniques.

They need less thinking clouding over their own true and brilliant nature.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Psychology, mindfulness and a little spiritual wisdom.

Chris Finn, author of A Clear Mind, in his therapy and coaching room
Chris FinnPsychotherapist. Life coach. Author.

I'm Chris Finn, a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Life Coach and author of A Clear Mind.

I've spent much of my working life trying to understand a deceptively simple question:

Why do human beings get in their own way?

My career has taken me through corporate leadership, psychology, 14 years in NHS mental health services, psychotherapy, university teaching, mindfulness and life coaching.

Across those different worlds, I became increasingly interested not just in why people struggle, but in what allows people to feel well and function at their best.

A Clear Mind brings those ideas together.

It isn't intended to replace therapy, tell you how you should live or give you another complicated system to follow.

My hope is much simpler.

That something you see while reading it helps you understand your own mind a little more clearly — and that life becomes lighter as a result.

More about Chris

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A little
more clarity.

What is a clear mind?

Having a clear mind doesn't mean having no thoughts. It means being less caught up in unnecessary thinking and more able to see situations with perspective, presence and common sense.

You can still plan, analyse and solve problems. The difference is that thinking becomes something useful rather than something that continually pulls you away from your life.

What are the benefits of a clear mind?

Greater mental clarity can help you experience less overthinking, make decisions with more perspective, become more present, trust yourself more and devote more attention to what actually matters.

A quieter mind can also create better conditions for creativity, problem-solving and the absorbed state often described as flow.

How do I clear my mind?

One of the central ideas in A Clear Mind is that trying too hard to clear your mind can become part of the problem.

Rather than attempting to control every thought, the book explores what happens when you better understand the nature of thinking itself and become less inclined to engage with every thought your mind produces.

Is A Clear Mind a psychology book?

A Clear Mind draws heavily on psychology alongside mindfulness, coaching and practical insights into human experience.

It is written for ordinary readers rather than academics, so psychological ideas are explained without unnecessary jargon.

Is A Clear Mind a mindfulness book?

Mindfulness has strongly influenced my work and the book, particularly ideas around presence and our relationship with thought.

However, A Clear Mind goes beyond formal mindfulness practice. The emphasis is less on learning techniques and more on understanding your mind differently.

Is A Clear Mind about anxiety and overthinking?

They are important themes within the book, but it is broader than a book about anxiety.

It explores wellbeing, confidence, decision-making, identity, habits, purpose, relationships, performance, flow and what can happen when unnecessary thinking stops getting in the way.

LESS NOISE. MORE LIFE.

Ready for a clearer mind?

You probably don't need to become someone new.

You may simply need to see what has been getting in the way of who you already are.
